Students are not designated as official graduates until the student has successfully completed the requirements to earn an Alberta High School Diploma.  The Province of Alberta will send the Alberta High School Diploma directly to the student through regular mail.  However, Assumption School holds a symbolic mass and ceremony at the end of the school year to commemorate the achievement of successfully attending school for twelve years. The requirement to take part in these celebrations are as follows:

• Must be registered in grade 12, attend school on a regular basis and be passing the courses required to earn an Alberta High School Diploma by the end of that academic year.  Graduation list will be posted on May 1.  

• Must have successfully completed or have a current mark of 50% or higher in Religion 35 by May 1. Students whose schedules will not allow them to take Religion 35 must complete an independent Study Course in the first semester.

• Must attend the graduation retreat.

• Must pay a flat rate fee to cover costs associated with Graduation.

The following are the minimum requirements that must be attained in order for a student to obtain an Alberta High School Diploma. Note: The requirements for entry into post-secondary institutions and workplaces may require additional and/or specific courses.

100 Alberta High School Credits 

Including the following:

• English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2 (5 credits)

• Social Studies 30-1 or Social Studies 30-2 (5 credits)

• Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 20-2 or Math 20-3 (5 credits)

• Biology 20 or Chemistry 20 or Physics 20 or Science 20 or Science 24 (5 credits)

• Physical Education 10 – (3 Credits)

• Career and Life Management (3 Credits)

 10 Credits in any combination from:

• Career and Technology Studies (CTS)

• Fine Arts

• Second Languages

• Physical Education 20 and/or 30

• Locally developed/acquired and locally authorized courses in CTS or Fine Arts

• Knowledge and Employability courses

• Registered Apprenticeship Program courses

10 Credits in any 30-level courses (in addition to 30-level English Language Arts and 30-level Social Studies courses)

This courses may include:

• 35-level locally developed/acquired and locally authorized courses

• Advanced level (3000 series) in Career and Technology Studies courses

• 35-level Work Experience courses

• 30-4 level Knowledge and Employability courses

• 35-level Registered Apprenticeship Program courses

• 30-level Green Certificate Specialization courses
