Principal’s Message

Welcome to Assumption Junior/Senior High School (AJSH), home of the Crusaders! My name is Leanne MacDonald and it is my pleasure to be the Principal of such an amazing school. I have been blessed to be a part of the AJSH community for many years and I am proud to call Assumption and Cold Lake my home.

AJSH is a dual-track school offering both English and French Immersion for grades 7 through 12. Students at AJSH have access to exciting academic, extra-curricular, and leadership opportunities in an environment that is inclusive and faith-filled. Teachers at AJSH are committed to providing each student with quality instruction, designed to meet their unique academic and post-secondary goals. At AJSH we believe in a well-rounded education, designed to develop the whole child. As such, we offer exciting and holistic programming that supports the development of the Spiritual, Academic, Emotional, Physical and Social aspects of each and every student.

It is not simply our job to provide our students with an education, but to prepare them fully for success in the 21st Century. We strive to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that they will need to succeed in life beyond high school. We offer a wide range of in-demand, cutting-edge and industry-related training programs that provide our students opportunities to learn the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a variety of trades and technical fields. Enhanced CTS (Career and Technology Studies) courses such as Robotics, Video Production, Video Game Programming, Welding, Construction, Communication Technology, Foods and Fashion, Sports Medicine, Outdoor Education, Social Justice, Drama, Band and Art.

We have active junior and senior high Youth Liturgical Leadership (YLL) groups that work to prepare school masses, liturgies, and attend conferences that nurture their faith and foster deeper relationships with God. AJSH students and staff can find themselves immersed in an environment that is in inclusive and cultivates their faith lives. Students are also encouraged to get involved in the school community by joining the Student Leadership team. This is offered to both junior and senior students and each group works together to plan and coordinate events for the student body.  They also take on various social justice projects, fundraising for various needs and supporting organizations with volunteer hours.

AJSH is proud to offer a variety of Athletic, Fine Arts, and Leadership programs that serve to develop the character and interests of our student body. When you are a Crusader you can expect dedicated coaches with athletic programs that are provincially recognized and second to none. The opportunities for students at AJSH to become involved in athletics are many; with Cross Country Running, Golf, Volleyball, Basketball, Curling, Badminton, Track and Field and Football. AJSH has an exciting competitive Band program that offers students the opportunities to compete at festivals, play concerts locally as well as to perform abroad. Assumption has developed a strong Drama program and we encourage all students to get involved. AJSH is known for its musical theatre productions such as: Annie, Footloose, Bye-Bye Birdie and Legally Blonde.

Here at Assumption we strive to make everyone feel a part of our family.  Staff, students and our community can expect a commitment to student success and spiritual growth. The past few years have been challenging as we navigate the new normal.  Our children, staff and families have had to adapt and change as the world around us evolved.  I look forward to a new school year filled with connections and successes for all. Come and experience for yourself why we are, ‘The School with Heart… Une école qui a du cœur.’ Once a Crusader, always a Crusader –welcome to your new home!
